At Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity, our mission is to help local families build safe, sustainable homes through zero-interest loans, and we could not carry out that mission without volunteers.  Truly, volunteers are the heart, soul and muscle behind our work.

In a few weeks, we will begin building a house on our church grounds for everyone to bear witness to God at work in Greenwood and at First Baptist Church.  We are grateful for your prayers and generous support, and now we’re asking that you join us at the job site.

We could use your help, no matter your level of experience.  We have a job for everyone at our site, and we have two licensed contractors on our staff who will teach you anything that you need to know.

Construction work takes place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a break for lunch.  Construction workers must be over the age of 16, but we’ll invite the youth of our church to support the build in other ways. Click here to download a construction volunteer flyer.

We have a plan in place in this time of COVID-19.  We’ll ask that you keep six feet of physical distance whenever possible, and you’ll find that to be easy working mostly outdoors.  If you must work closely with another person, we’re going to ask that you wear a mask, and we’ll have plenty on site that we can give you.  You’ll need to bring your own gloves and safety glasses.  I’ll ask the church staff to share our general instruction flyer which provides more information.  Because we will be mostly outside, because we will stay six feet apart, because we will wear masks when necessary, at the First Baptist Habitat build site, we will praise God and stay safe at the same time.

I will contact Sunday school classes and other groups within the church to discuss interest in their volunteering together, but we want you to know that you can volunteer by yourself or with friends or family any time that the site is not already full.  You can call me at 864-980-9690, e-mail me, or visit greenwoodhabitat.org and click “Volunteer” to register online.  You’ll see a link on the online registration page that will be labeled “First Baptist Build,” and you will see whether any openings remain as well as other information about what to expect.

Now is the time for you to get involved.  Join us at Greenwood Area Habitat as we move past the helplessness of the pandemic and toward hope for the future of our community.  Let us show the love of God to the people of Greenwood not with words but with actions and in truth.  See you at the site!
